Chicopee PTO to host John L. Fitzpatrick Memorial Scholarship fundraiser

CHICOPEE - The city of Chicopee's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) President Erin Biela proudly announces the first John L. Fitzpatrick Scholarship fundraiser.

The scholarship fund, which is in honor of Fitzpatrick, who served as the city's Superintendent of Schools from 1946 to 1965, is a non-academic scholarship in the amount of $250 which is awarded to graduating seniors from both high schools.

Traditionally, eight to 10 students from both high schools are awarded these scholarships, but recent economic downturns have put that number in danger. This spurred the PTO into action to organize this event, and they are hopeful for a good turnout among residents.

The event will take place March 19 at the Castle of Knights on Memorial Drive from 6 to 11 p.m. There will be an auction, buffet dinner and dancing.
