CHICOPEE In October 2006, Tony Ricardi was diagnosed with cancer. Even after chemotherapy and radiation treatment, the cancer spread throughout Ricardi's body, Ricardi was so ill and fatigued that he cannot work. Laurie Ricardi, his wife, has been working three jobs in an attempt to make ends meet.

Sadly, Ricardi passed away on July 3. "The benefit originally was going to be to help support the family and Ricardi during his fight. With his passing, the benefit is being held to celebrate Ricardi's life and to assist the family in these hard times," Ricardi's daughter-in-law, Melissa Carriveau, said. The Committee for the Tony Ricardi Benefit is asking the public for donations to the benefit.

The benefit will take place on Aug. 8 at the American Legion Post 275.

"The benefit will be a spaghetti dinner with dancing after including a band of Tony's friends and a DJ. Both are donating their time. There will be free soda and beer, as well as a cash bar for other drinks. There will be a raffle as well, regular Chinese raffle, 50/50, and a Red Sox tickets raffle. Tickets for the raffle will be $5 an arm's length for Chinese raffle, $1 a ticket for 50/50, and 3 for $5 for the Red Sox tickets. Tickets for the benefit are $20 for donation to the family, but also people and companies are welcome to donate monetary contributions as well if they cannot attend," Carriveau explained.

"We would like to thank you in advance for any support you may be willing to offer. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated and bring comfort to the Ricardi family during this trying time," the committee for the benefit stated in a letter.

All donations are tax deductible and please make out checks payable to Timothy Carriveau in care of Tony Ricardi Benefit. Donors can mail contributions to Timothy Carriveau in care of Tony Ricardi Benefit 1 Laramee St. Chicopee, MA 01020.
