Duval Precision awarded Workforce Training Grant

news@thereminder.comCHICOPEE – Duval Precision Grinding was one of 39 companies statewide and one of only two in Western Massachusetts to be awarded Workforce Training Fund General Program Grants.
The company received $54,600 to help train its 28 employees. The grant is expected to help generate two new jobs at the company, according to the information supplied by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
State officials predicted the newest round of grants, totaling $3.7 million, would create 242 new jobs by the end of 2015.
Malcolm Getz, the president and CEO of the Duval, told
Reminder Publications this was the first time the company received such a grant.
The company has been in business for more than 60 years and specializes in six types of industrial grinding.
The grant will be used to “support classification with precision grinding,” Getz said.
It will also fund outside training for “basic Lean concepts,” Getz added. “Lean” manufacturing is strategies to preserving the value of a product or service at the same time of eliminating work.
Getz said “Lean” for his company means “continual improvement.”
