Football tradition helps Lorraine's

Date: 11/12/2008

It has long been a long tradition in Chicopee for the two High Schools, Chicopee High and Chicopee Comprehensive to play each other in football. The first game was held in 1966 under Mayor Lysick who started this rivalry of passing a sword between the two schools for display. The sword was donated by Ames Sword Company in Chicopee. The Booster Clubs of Chicopee High and Chicopee Comp see that there is an immediate need in the city to address right now, to fill the cupboards of Lorraine's Soup Kitchen. The football programs will be hosting a non-perishable food drive at the entrances of Szot Park this Saturday, November 15th. The game will begin at 1 p.m. and food items will be collected when the gates open. They will deliver the goods to Lorraine's Soup Kitchen at half-time.
