CHICOPEE — The expansion of Baystate Dental into a former warehouse at 516 Montgomery St. has helped the local economy two ways: the move created jobs and helped in the development of the building into office space.

Dr. Matt Haluch explained to Reminder Publications that Bay State Dental, which has offices in Springfield, East Longmeadow, Longmeadow, Wilbraham, Holyoke, Ludlow, Belchertown and West Springfield, had purchased a practice in Chicopee but the office was small and old. The company sought a new Chicopee location and the former warehouse of a wheelchair company on the access road to the Big Y complex on Memorial Drive was reborn as a dental center.

The renovations took about five months Haluch said. The company added dental assistants, dental hygienists and front desk personnel, he added. In all the company employs more than 100 people including 15 dentists.

Building owner George Flevotomos said the dental practice was what he was looking for as a tenant. Baystate Dental occupies 3,000 square feet and he wants to convert the remaining 10,000 square feet into office space.
