CHICOPEE Elizabeth Ann Kelly, 13, has been selected to play in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association Western District Junior Orchestra this year. She is seated in the first violin section for the event. The concert takes place at Boston Symphony Hall in mid-March.

Kelly is no stranger to music. She's been playing the violin since age 4, said her father, Francis Kelly. She has since increased her repertoire of instruments to eight, including the violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, flute and clarinet. She also studies voice and tap, jazz, ballet and acrobatic dancing.

The orchestra was selected through an audition process, and includes students from Hampshire and Hamden counties, as well as the town of Ware. Francis Kelly said his daughter is the only Chicopee resident in the string section of the orchestra.

Musicians meet only twice prior to the concert, including a two-day practice session.

Elizabeth has also been involved in the Springfield Youth Symphony Orchestra, where she is currently the principal cellist. She is also a member of the Pioneer Valley Youth Chamber Ensemble.
