lori@thereminder.comCHICOPEE During the summer a group of volunteers transformed a gym into a "wonderful theater space" for Holyoke Catholic High School students in the performing arts department.
"This summer has been very eventful for us in performing arts," Eva Stockhamer, director of the performing arts club, said during an interview with Reminder Publications. "We are unable to use Veritas at Elms College so we were fortunate to find a new space that we have overhauled."
Stockhamer noted that despite the "extremely hot summer," volunteers transformed a gym into a "theater experience."
"We really encourage everyone to try to come and see this show and this space, we worked very hard to make it our new home," she said.
The new home is located in Cuvilly Hall, behind Holy Name of Jesus Church, 33 South St.
The troupe's first show in the new location is "Thoroughly Modern Millie," slated Sept. 7, 8, 14 and 15. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. for all shows.
"The show is about a young woman who comes to New York City to fill her dreams in a big city and marry someone, maybe even her boss," Stockhamer said. "Her boss, landlord, and several others stir the pot in many subplots that make 'Millie' such a fun show."
Students starring in the production include Andrea Boraski as Millie, as well as Pat Moskal, Monique Desnoyers, Caroline McHugh, Rick Giordano, Kevin Campbell, Chad Nowlan and Kaitlin Allair.
Area residents attending the show will also be able to purchase popcorn, baked goods and beverages. A raffle is also planned with "some special items," according to Stockhamer.
"We also are planning something very special for opening night you won't want to miss," she said.

"We anticipate sell-out crowds this year," Stockhamer said.
