news@thereminder.comCHICOPEE The School Committee recently unanimously approved using $10,144 to pay for one student from Chicopee Comprehensive High School (CCHS) and six students from Bellamy Middle School to compete at the 2012 International Future Problem Solving (FPS) Program International Conference at the University of Indiana.
The event will be conducted from June 7 to 10.
The students from Bellamy are the Future Problem Solving Team of Hannah Chapdelaine, Macy Carleton, Alyssa Barbosa, and Brianna Cote; alternates Gehrig Burnett and Devin Valentine.
Jenna Lescell from CCHS will be participating in the Individual Scenario Writing and Individual FPS competition.
Students will be accompanied to the conference by REACH teachers Aubrey Pittsinger, Gina Gacona, and Michael Burke.
All of the students competed at the State FPS Bowl and took first place in their respective competition.
Jill Chapdelaine, assistant for Curriculum and Instructional Support, said, "As a district, we are proud of all of our students who participated in the REACH program this year. They did a wonderful job representing Chicopee. For the seven students from Bellamy Middle School and Chicopee Comprehensive High School who were invited to the 2011 International Conference, we couldn't be more proud of their achievements. What is significant to note is that over 50,000 students participate each year in the various competitive components associated with the FPSPI program and only about three percent earn an invitation to this prestigious international conference. It's quite an accomp-lishment for these students and their coaches."
