Elms College student Karyn Palomba has been named the recipient of this year's Sisters of St. Joseph Service Award. Palomba, a junior in the Nursing Program, was selected because of her commitment to the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Karyn is Vice President of Student Government, a Resident Advisor and a member of the softball team. Sr. Maureen Kervick, Director of Campus Ministry at the Elms, says "Karyn's leadership style demonstrates an ability to create unity with respect to diversity and affirms the giftedness of her peers as well as faculty and staff." The SSJ Service Award was established in 2004 as a way of recognizing Elms College students who exhibit "a spirit that echoes the love of humanity and dedication to service". The Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield is a Congregation of more than 300 women who have taken vows to serve the people of God, "our dear neighbor" in dozens of communities throughout New England. Elms College is a coeducational, Catholic, liberal arts college in Chicopee, founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1928. |
