CHICOPEE Interested in buying a little piece of history and helping out the Jimmy Fund? Bidding successfully in "The Greatest" auction at Chicopee City Hall can do just that.

Chicopee Human Resources Director Richard Merchant has donated a number of autographed sports photos from his collection as well two pairs of tickets to the April 19 Red Sox game versus the Texas Rangers for the auction that is part of a City Hall effort to help the Jimmy Fund.

Among the framed and autographed photos are Denny McLain of the Detroit Tigers, Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics, three different photos of Ted Williams, and hockey great Wayne Gretzky.

People interested in bidding should go to the Mayor's Office to view the items and to place a bid. The deadline for bidding ends at 11:30 a.m. April 8.

The auction is part of a larger effort to raise money for the fight against cancer. On April 8 from 11:30 to 2 p.m. will be a picnic at City Hall with tickets costing $5. There is also a 50/50 raffle scheduled that day with tickets on sale at the City Clerk's Office for $3 each or two for $5.

The public can also make a donation to the Chicopee Comp Key Club's Rally Against Cancer team by going to www.rallyagainstcancer.org. Click on "join a team" and then go to "please select a team" to designate a $5 to the Key Club.
