USO food pantry needs contributions

Date: 11/11/2009

CHICOPEE As Americans continue to take hits from the economy, those with loved ones overseas are just trying to make ends meet back at home. The local Pioneer Valley USO, headquartered at Westover Air Reserve Base (WARB), is preparing for its holiday food drive for the USO Food Pantry.

The one-day event will take place on Nov. 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Stop & Shop at 672 Memorial Dr.

A tractor trailer will be parked in the parking lot just outside the doors of the large grocery store to accept non-perishable food, paper and health and beauty items. In addition, cash is always accepted. All work is done by volunteers and board members who spend countless hours giving time and talent to the needs of the Pioneer Valley USO and troop families. Currently, there are about100 military families that rely on the many services of the Pioneer Valley USO.

Military families can benefit from the USO Food Panty donations at WARB at any time and find additional holiday support for their loved ones who cannot make it back this holiday season. The Pioneer Valley USO collects non-perishable foods, daily household needs and accepts cash donations year-round.
