Winners announced in library poetry contact

CHICOPEE More than 140 poems were submitted this spring for the Chicopee Public Library's Poetry Contest, according to Sylvia Horton, Young Adult Specialist.

"Chicopee Public Library thanks all who entered and all who helped judge the contest," said Horton. She added that poems were judged three ways, ranging from the library's patrons and the library staff to a group of poets.

Winners were announced at an awards ceremony in the community room of the library on April 27. Winners in each division are:

Elementary School: first prize, "Dogs and Cats" by Leah Navarro; second prize, "My Sister Alissa" by Stefania Mahar, and third prize, "Hockey" by Brittany Taylor.

Middle School: first prize, "Only One" by Megan Shafer; second prize, "Teddy Bear" by Mark Soukup, and third prize, "Pink Satin Ribbon" by Mark Soukup.

High School: first prize, "Class Janus" by Caitlin Reilly; second prize, "Your Love" by Jasmine Torres-Cruz, and third prize, "A Moment In Time To Be Treasured" by Jessica Buchanan.

Adult: first prize, "The Oak" by Dr. Sparkie Allison; second prize, "Soar" by Dr. Sparkie Allison, and third prize, "Moon Fishing" by Michelle Jones.
