An afternoon with a Tibetan Monk

EAST LONGMEADOW All are welcome to visit Heartsong Yoga on Oct. 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. for an "up close and personal" opportunity to meet Khen Rinpoche Lobzang Tsetan, a Tibetan Buddhist Monk of the Gelug-pa lineage (the same as the Dalai Lama). Khen Rinpoche has the highest degree obtainable in Tibetan Buddhist metaphysics and philosophy. He travels each year to the U.S. to raise awareness about challenges facing the Tibetan people, and to raise funds for the Siddhartha School in his native home in Ladakh, Northen India. The school seeks to preserve Tibetan Buddhist culture and language while giving the children of this remote Himalayan area a well-rounded education, which will allow them to represent themselves and their culture in this newly evolving global community.

He was recently enthroned as the head abbot of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Southern India by H.H. Dalai Lama. (This is in the absence of the Panchen Lama, who has been missing since the Chinese Government took him and his family into custody when he was four years old.)

The afternoon will include a lecture and discussion, a meditation and blessing, and time for questions. This event is free and open to the public, and donations will be accepted to support the Siddhartha School Project. Walk-ins are welcome. Heartsong Yoga is located at 264 North Main St. Call 525-0720 or visit www.heartsongyoga.com for more information.
