Artistic collaboration creates 'amazing' Van Gogh replica

Date: 5/25/2011

EAST LONGMEADOW During the fall, the Art Department at Meadow Brook School began an internship with East Longmeadow High School (ELHS).

Internships, under the direction of Marc Maccarini, are a one block per school day experience for juniors and seniors. Students volunteer their time and gain first hand work opportunities.

A senior, Sarah McMann, worked with Art teacher Donna Moore as the first graders explored the painting The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh.

Through the process of finger painting and collage, the children created pictures in the manner of Van Gogh. As they completed their work, Sarah gathered their scraps and combined all the pieces.

As a result, an amazing canvas collage reproduction occurred. Meadow Brooks' Starry Night will be on exhibit as a permanent "installation" at the school. Sarah enlightened us with her creativity and motivation. Her presence will be missed at the school. Yet, Meadow Brook will benefit from her internship for many years to come.

Sarah will graduate from ELHS this June and attend Massachusetts College Of Art and Design in Boston.
