EAST LONGMEADOW — Christopher Beecher was sworn in as East Longmeadow’s first deputy fire chief on Feb. 6. The ceremony at the Fire Department marked the pinnacle of Beecher’s career. An East Longmeadow resident, he graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in 2014, rising through the ranks to the position of captain and serving as the town’s public fire and life safety educator. Fire Chief Paul Morrisette said there was “stiff competition” for the depiuty chief position. Town Manager Mary McNally said that she was pleased the department was able to “promote from within,” and that a full-time ranked deputy chief will “move the needle forward in a more professional way” for the department.
