EAST LONGMEADOW As a result of an increasing number of complaints to the Planning Board regarding zoning violations, Donald Anderson, as chairman, would like the public to be aware that zoning enforcement is the responsibility of the Town's Building Inspector, as Zoning Enforcement Officer, and not the Planning Board. The Board receive numerous calls relating to alleged zoning infractions, including a number of calls on illegal signs. The Planning Board is also hearing concerns regarding the parking of business equipment in residential neighborhoods, business operations in residential zones, the use of land equipment during late night or early morning hours, and placement of structures in non-compliance with setback requirements. While the Board also shares these concerns, in reality, the Board of Selectmen, who directly oversees the position of Building Inspector, is the appropriate governing department to contact regarding these matters. Please address all of your complaints to the Building Inspector and Board of Selectmen at 525-5420. Should a complaint be submitted in writing, you are entitled to a written response from the Building Inspector as to the status of that complaint within 14 days. |
