Assistant Managing Editor EAST LONGMEADOW The East Longmeadow Football Booster Club last week announced its new Spartan Business Partner Program, the first fund-raiser of its kind to help support East Longmeadow High School football. Booster Club member Steve McGirr explained last week that the program will allow the Club another way to raise money to purchase much needed equipment for the team which is not often covered in the school's budget. Traditional activities to generate revenue include car washes and selling "Bargain Books." In this program, local business sponsors may participate at four different levels, ranging from running a business card sized advertisement in the football team's program to running their company's logos on banners, full page program ads, and fall sports spirit tee shirts which will be sold in the school. The two foot by three foot banners will be hung from the four light posts which illuminate the football field during night games. They will remain there for the duration of the football season and will also be seen by those using the field for other sports and activities. The funds raised by these advertising opportunities will help pay for things like block-in sleds, McGirr explained, which can cost thousands of dollars. "The coaches let us know where their needs are and we fill in where the budget falls short," he said. Last week, McGirr met with Finish Line Signs and Graphics owner Joe Blay, who will make all the banners, for the installation of the first two of what they hope will be many banners.
