Cafe Lebanon serves up new flavors

EAST LONGMEADOW Cafe Lebanon will bring its Mediterranean and Lebanese cuisine to East Longmeadow in late September.

Owner Nadim Kashouh is currently renovating the vacated space previously housed by Simone's and the well-known Wild Apples restaurant, in East Meadow Shops.

Simone's restaurant moved into the Shaker Road location in May 2005 and closed its doors several months ago, according to East Meadow owner Steven Graziano.

Since then Graziano said he was actively looking to fill the void with a quality restaurant that would offer new cuisine and variety.

Kashouh started Cafe Lebanon in 2000 on State Street in Springfield. Now located on Main Street, the thriving business expanded to Northampton in February of 2006. When he saw the opportunity to branch out into East Longmeadow, he took it, stating that the town is a destination for dining, and is "becoming the new Northampton."

Their menu runs the gamut in traditional Lebanese dishes from makanik (Lebanese sausage sauteed with lemon juice) to falafels and kabobs.

Kashouh has plans for a few new additions in his third venue.

"We're going to be adding some pasta dishes to the menu, more Mediterranean items, we will have a kids menu," Kashouh said, adding that they will also carry two fish dishes as well.

Graziano said Kashouh has applied to transfer Simone's liquor license to Cafe Lebanon and that with a new decor the restaurant will be an attractive facility.

"His food is excellent and a lot of people will enjoy coming to East Longmeadow to dine at his establishment," Graziano added.
