EAST LONGMEADOW Big changes for local restaurants were approved by the Board of Selectmen at their July 1 meeting, but only one change should be noticeable by patrons.

The selectmen approved the application for an entertainment license for Cafe Lebanon, located at 60 Shaker Rd. The restaurant's parent location in Springfield has been host to Middle Eastern entertainment for a while, and owner Nadim Kashouh wanted to bring that tradition to East Longmeadow.

"'Arabian Nights'" will feature a four piece band and belly dancing, and it has been approved for once a month," restaurant manager Shelley Paluch said. "We may not do it that often, though. It's a big ordeal."

The first "Arabian Night" has been tentatively scheduled for July 26, and tickets for the event will cost $10 each. Tickets are available at the restaurant and Paluch recommended reservations be made as quickly as possible.

"I really think [patrons] will love it," Paluch told Reminder Publications. "It's beautiful. The [belly dancing] girls are so talented ... I think once [the patrons] see it, they'll love it."

She added that local musicians and belly dancers will be used.

The entertainment license also allows Cafe Lebanon to host a piano player, and Paluch foresees that form of entertainment taking place more often than the "Arabian Nights."

"We're just trying to bring some entertainment to the restaurant," Kashouh told the selectmen. He added that his next goal is to open a fondue room inside the East Longmeadow location.

The Board of Selectmen also approved the transfer of all alcoholic beverages and common victualer licenses from Nicholas Guiggio to Anthony Guiggio at the Pizza Shoppe, located at 134 Shaker Rd.

Attorney Steven Manning, who was representing Anthony, said this was simply a transfer of business between two brothers and assured the selectmen that there were no plans to change the business.

The approval of the transfers is contingent upon the completion of the proper paperwork and certifications for the Pizza Shoppe.
