EAST LONGMEADOW As consumers continue the process of becoming more earth-friendly, Joanne Hasbrouck's classroom at Meadowbrook is already educating the leaders of tomorrow.

Last Monday her first grade students celebrated Earth Day by creating posters symbolizing what taking care of the environment means to them. Better Life Whole Foods and Kid Stuff, both located in Bicentennial Plaza in Springfield, joined in the initiative by agreeing to house the posters inside their facilities until the end of May.

"We wanted to incorporate the kids and start them young," Nicole Garvey, of Better Life Whole Foods, said.

Garvey, whose daughter is also a student of Hasbrouck's, said they want to get the youth used to the idea of being mindful of their surroundings.

Poster themes ranged from pesticide-free grass to no littering and clean water.
