Church breaks ground on project

~ Submitted by St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church

EAST LONGMEADOW The members of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church announced that they held their groundbreaking ceremony on April 10. This long awaited event marks the start of their renovation and expansion project. Their goal is to expand their facilities in order to expand their ministries in the church and in the community. The project truly began in 2000 when a fact-finding committee was established. Members were surveyed to determine their needs and goals. In 2002, a fund-raising committee was formed and in 2003 the Capital Appeal began. Now, after much research, deliberation and planning their dreams are about to become a reality.

While they build for the future, their commitment to service is rooted in their past. It will be 115 years since Swedish quarrymen founded St. Paul in 1890. Through the generations they've become a very diverse congregation, but their mission has not changed. This million-dollar project will enable them to improve and increase their ministries with added space in the narthex area for fellowship, a chapel for meditation and more intimate services, a youth services area, multi-functional rooms and handicapped accessibility.

The project should be completed this fall. With the determination and support of their members and friends, the skilled expertise of architect, Earl R. Lindgren, and builders, W.J. Quinn Company, the spiritual guidance of pastor, The Rev. Dr. Rolf L. Hedberg, and faith in a loving God, they will build a facility that will be an inspiration and an asset to all for years to come.
