School Open House And Parents

School open house is an important time for parents and students. However, sometimes there is confusion between Open House and Parent Conferences. School open house is always scheduled toward the beginning of the school year so that parents can meet their child's teacher, see their child's classroom and tour their child's school facilities. Additionally, parents can meet other staff and administration during open house events.

I would compare school open house to the residential open houses in the real-estate industry. When you are buying a house, you often attend open houses set up by real-estate agents.

When you go, you inspect the house, tour the home, and if interested, you make an appointment to talk about the specific financial information.

Clearly, you don't want to talk about your specific financial information in front of other strangers at the event.

School open house is practically the same.Since so many people attend a school open house, it is impossible to try and conduct a parent conference and talk about specific grades, assignments, issues and help for your child.

All of those things are better suited for a private conference between parent and teacher. All teachers in East Longmeadow are available for individual private parent conferences.Simply call in advance and schedule with the teacher a date and time that is mutually good for both parties.

Unlike parent conferences, school open house is for the general public.Adults, children, students, friends and citizens tour our buildings during open house days for our schools.East Longmeadow school open houses are scheduled for this month, so don't miss out.

Next time I will talk about parent conferences, the kinds of information often discussed, parent tips for conducting a meaningful conference and how conferences can help students.

Remember, when schools and parents work together the student always wins!
