Counselors lunch with commissioner

EAST LONGMEADOW On May 9 Marc Maccarini (ELHS Career Counselor) and John Martin (ELHS Guidance Counselor) were selected to present their experiences with The Real Game at the MASCA (Massachusetts School Counselors Association) Annual Conference in Hyannis.

At the conclusion of the presentation, Maccarini and Martin were invited to have lunch with Dr. David Driscoll, Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Education, to further discuss the program.

The Real Game is a set of career exploration/transition workshops for students about to make the transition from high school to further education or directly to work and is being implemented in the Junior Exploratory and Senior Advisory classes at ELHS.

In the presentation, "Implementing the MA Model: Programs that Work," Maccarini and Martin discussed what The Real Game is, how it was implemented at ELHS, and the impact of the program on the participating students at ELHS. The program is part of a larger four-year career curriculum that is being designed and implemented to empower ELHS students to take control of their futures.
