EAST LONGMEADOW – As the weather warms and COVID-19 cases decline, organizations are again embracing outdoor fundraisers. The Friends of the Norcross House, a non-profit organization, have announced a craft fair to benefit the maintenance and preservation of the Norcross House.
On June 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., vendors will offer their goods on the grounds of the historic building, located at 89 Maple St. in East Longmeadow. A rain date has been set for June 26.
The Friends of the Norcross House have booked 18 vendors, but are still accepting applications. The house and the Historical Museum will also be open for tours.
Built in the 1880s, the Norcross House began as a summer home for J. Franklin Norcross, who operated nearby brownstone quarries.
The organization’s website describes the building as “a late Victorian version of the Greek Revival period.” The building has had life as a private residence, the East Longmeadow Tea Room, the Busy Bee Pre-School and an artists’ studio, with its carriage house used as a gallery.
The Norcross House faced demolition at the turn of the 21st century, but the building was saved and is now under the preservation and operation of non-profits The Friends of the Norcross House. In its current incarnation the property is available for rent as an event space, but the organization plans to eventually create a historic and educational center.
