EAST LONGMEADOW – Throughout the month of January, East Longmeadow Public Library is encouraging people to get “all the feels.”
“All the Feels” is a winter reading challenge for readers of all ages. Readers log their time spent reading throughout the month. Time spent listening to audiobooks also counts toward the challenge.
“From cookbooks, to magazines, to picture books, to language learning, everything counts,” said Library Director Katherine McGonigle.
For each hour read or listened to, the participant receives an emoji-themed badge and raffle ticket. “Activity Badges and Review Badges are extra motivation for folks to engage with the reading challenge,” said McGonigle. She described them as “pings of encouragement.” Prizes for the raffle include gift cards to local businesses, books and a tote bag. Prizes are courtesy of the Friends of East Longmeadow Public Library.
There is no limit to the number of people who can participate in the challenge.
“Nearly 30 people have already signed up,” McGonigle said. There is a total reading goal is 100,000 minutes, which is about two and a half months of reading or listening.
In conjunction with the Winter Reading Challenge, the East Longmeadow Public Library will host “All the Feels” programs including story times, Me Moji (a passive cartooning program), book displays and crafts. Completing activities and submitting book reviews can also earn badges.
