EAST LONGMEADOW – The East Longmeadow 4th of July Parade is almost here! Don’t forget the town wide house decorating contest with prizes for the top three homes and people’s choice – see our Facebook page (see below) for more details, rules and prizes. As always the generous use of flags and banners is encouraged. Judging will take place on July 1 between 5 and 8 p.m. Decision of the judges is final. All town residents are invited to participate in showing their spirit with a chance to win. If you are leaving any flags up overnight, please remember they must be properly lit from dawn to dusk. All winners will be announced on the parade’s website and the town’s Facebook page. Good luck to all!
As in recent years we will start at the high school, moving through the center onto North Main St, and finishing at Hanward Hill at Birchland. The advance unit consisting of the East Longmeadow Police Department, Fire Department as well as local Fire Departments will lead the parade at 9:45 a.m. All other parade units will begin the route at 10 a.m. We also would like to recognize all veterans for their service and invite them to join in the military unit for your service to this great country.
We are still looking for volunteers! The committee continues to look for people to work in the positions of banner carriers and parade marshals. Recent eighth grade graduates and high school students who wish to be either banner carriers or parade marshals can receive community service time toward graduation. Parade marshals help the committee form up and run the parade on July 4. Marshals will receive information and assignments prior to the parade.
Help our community as we celebrate a proud East Longmeadow parade tradition. Anyone interested in either being a banner carrier or parade marshal should contact Ryan Quimby on our Facebook page, East Longmeadow 4th of July Parade, call Ryan at 348-0953, or email at 4th@eastlongmeadowma.gov.
St. Paul Lutheran Church, 181 Elm St., will provide services for the parade attendees. The church will be providing our neighbors with free parking, a viewing location and activities to keep families entertained while waiting for the parade. Along with the fun and games there will be music, hot dogs, ice cream, pastries and best of all cold water.
