East Longmeadow Rail Trail officially opens

EAST LONGMEADOW -- United States Congressman Richard E. Neal spoke at the Sept. 9 ribbon cutting ceremony for the Redstone Trailway in the trail's parking lot on Industrial Drive. Neal was instumental in getting the grant money required for the completion of the project. The ceremony was the official end of a project over 18 years in the making that began when the Redstone Trailway committee met on "a snowy night" in February of 1992, according to former committee chair, Dr. Steven Squillace. The trail runs from Denslow Road to Maple Street. There is the possibility of future expansion of the trail as far as the borders of Springfield and East Longmeadow.
