East Longmeadow Fire Department

EAST LONGMEADOW The East Longmeadow Fire Department has brought fire education to more than 1,250 children in grades K-5 in the three elementary schools since the fall.

Our fire educator Fire Fighter Ed McCandlish teaches escape routes, learn-not-to-burn, stop-drop-and-roll, get-out-and-stay-out and, most importantly, how to prevent fires and the dangers associated with it.

This year, through a state grant, each child who received the fire education program S.A.F.E. (Student Awareness of Fire Education), was given a sports bottle, pencil and ruler with the East Longmeadow Fire Department name and the S.A.F.E. logo on it.

In addition to the children receiving their "graduation" gifts, each homeroom teacher received a tee shirt that read "Smoke Detectors The Sound of Life. Check your batteries monthly!"
