EAST LONGMEADOW - In September 2009, a local group of athletic and educational supporters formed the East Longmeadow High School (ELHS) Athletic Hall of Fame Committee for the purposes of establishing an Athletic Hall of Fame at the high school.

Over the course of the past three months the committee has grown to approximately 20 members representing the school system, coaching ranks and the greater East Longmeadow community, and has crafted a mission, constitution, bylaws and induction criteria.

The ELHS Hall of Fame will honor former athletes, coaches and contributors who have exemplified outstanding abilities and contributions to the proud tradition of athletics in town of East Longmeadow.

Complete criteria and nomination forms are available at the ELHS office, the East Longmeadow Public Library and the East Longmeadow Recreational Department. They are also available through The Reminder Online by clicking the Spartans banner on the home page.

Nomination for the Inaugural Induction, scheduled for Nov. 5, must be received no later than May 1. Completed forms should be sent to the East Longmeadow High School Office, 180 Maple St., East Longmeadow, MA 01028, Attn: Director of Athletics.

Eligibility encompasses all individuals since the opening of ELHS from 1960 through the graduating class of 2000.

Each year new inductees will be added to the Hall of Fame and plans are in place to install a permanent exhibit at the high school to publicly display a record of the accomplishments of those honored.

The first fundraising event to support this new Hall of Fame will be a bus trip to Foxwoods on Feb. 28. Cost is $30 per person, which includes a $15 buffet coupon and a $15 Keno coupon. The bus will leave ELHS at 9 a.m. and return at 6 p.m. To reserve your seat call Lloyd Duperre at 525-4188.
