E.L. veteran helps dedicate five memorial monuments

East Longmeadow Veteran Emil V. Raimondi has had the honor of dedicating five memorial monuments at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA. These memorials are for the organizations at which Emil is a member and past officer. The monuments and dates of dedication are:

On Oct. 21, monument five was dedicated at the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery for the deceased veterans of the St. Michael's Church Knight's of Columbus Council #9960 East Longmeadow.

The other four memorials that he had the pleasure to have installed for organizations that he is a member of are as follows:

Monument one - was dedicated Nov. 11, 2002 for the deceased members of the Disabled American Veterans Springfield Chapter #68. Commanding Officer Emil V. Raimondi.

Monument two - was dedicated July 14, 2004 for the New England Chapter of the 30th Infantry Division. President Emil V. Raimondi.

Monument three - was dedicated April 9, 2003 to the Western Massachusetts American Ex-Prisoners of War. Emil was past commander. The ninth of April is nationally known as American Ex-Prisoners of War Day.

Monument four - was dedicated Sept. 9, 2006 in honor of the Combat Infantrymen of New England. Commander Edward Zebrowski, MD.

Emil would like to thank these organizations and members that enabled him to have these monuments made and erected for the veterans of the organizations in which he is a member.

Four of these monuments were manufactured and erected by Venezian Monumental Works of Springfield. Steve and Nancy Power, the owners, have been a great help in the manufacturing and installation of these monuments. Steve is also a veteran and a veteran that works with veterans.

Monument four for the Combat Infantrymen of New England was made in Vermont.

Raimondi also wishes to thank the Honorable Senator Brian Lees, Senate Minority Leader, of East Longmeadow for his great assistance in acting on Raimondi's request that the State give the East Longmeadow Veterans the honor of having Route 83 from Belmont Avenue to the Somers line in Connecticut be given the honorable name of "The East Longmeadow Veteran's Highway."

On Nov. 11, 2000,this "East Longmeadow Veterans Highway" was dedicated and signs were posted at the start on North Main Street to the Somers, CT state line honoring our home town veterans for their supreme sacrifice.

Raimondi and his wife, Rita, volunteer at the Northampton V.A. Medical Center and the Holyoke Soldiers Home monthly with bingo games and refreshments after the games for the hospitalized veterans.
