EAST LONGMEADOW – Summer programs from the East Longmeadow Parks and Recreation Department are packed, but there are still opportunities to enjoy the season and get ready for sports in the fall.
Parks and Recreation Department Director Donna Prather told Reminder Publishing that the department’s Movies in the Park series is in full swing. Residents can gather at Center Field to watch family-friendly films with their neighbors. July’s movie, “The Lion King” (2019), will be shown July 16, from 8:15 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a rain date of July 23. On Aug. 13, “Frozen II” will be screened at 8:15 p.m. Its rain date is Aug. 20.
Center Field is also home to the Farmer’s Market, which has two more dates in the summer. July 16 and Aug. 13, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The rain dates are the following Fridays. A “Fall Fest” will be hosted at Center Field on Sept. 10 and Oct. 8 and will sell seasonal goods.
Another summer program Parks and Recreation will be hosting is Drive-in style Family Trivia at 8:15 p.m. on July 24 and Aug. 14.
The Pine Knoll Pool will be open to the public all summer until Sept. 6. The hours are Friday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Summer swim lessons are available. Even dogs can get in on swimming with the the Pine Knoll Pool’s “Drool in the Pool” event on Sept. 7.
Prather said that even though it is still summer, now is the time to register for Fall sports programs. The department is currently taking registrations for travel soccer, football, field hockey, girls’ lacrosse and cheerleading.
