Golf outing to raise funds for Daniel Federici’s family

Date: 8/20/2015

EAST?LONGMEADOW – A golf tournament at Franconia Golf Course in Springfield will raise funds to support the family of Daniel Federici, a 30-year-old East Longmeadow native who passed away in car accident on July 13.

Paul Federici, Daniel’s father and the Board of Selectmen chair, said he has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the East Longmeadow community since his son passed away.

“It really takes a tragedy like this to see that there’s so many wonderful people out there and the level of support that we got from family, [and friends],” he added. “The town of East Longmeadow’s been incredible – all the employees and all the department heads and even strangers.”

Federici said Bentley’s Bistro, located at 53 N. Main St., would sponsor the tournament, which is set to begin at noon on Sept. 13. Last year, the restaurant hosted the first Bentley’s Open.

“This year, after losing my son, they offered to have the tournament in his memory this year and have the proceeds go to my daughter-in-law and the kids,” he added.

The maximum number of players on the course would be 144 with the cost being $125 per golfer, he noted. The cost also includes access to a golf cart and dinner at Bentley’s.

There are also hole sponsorships, which are $75 each, Federici said.

He said he hopes the memorial golf tournament would become an annual event.

“The sponsors that we get this year will next year be encouraged to come back when we do it,” Federici noted.

To donate to an account to support Daniel’s wife and children, checks can be made out to Daniel Federici’s Children’s Fund at the Berkshire Bank located at 73 Shaker Road.
