EAST LONGMEADOW This Sunday, families are invited to head down to Center Field and take part in an event that will benefit East Longmeadow Schools and offer activities and entertainment for the whole family.

The Family Caribbean fest, hosted by local businesses and Friends of the Norcross Center, will kick off at noon, rain or shine. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children over six, and are available at Romito's and Graziano Gardens.

Event organizer Chris Graziano last week announced several of the Festival's musicians and features.

For the kids, a dunk tank with the theme of "Dunk your favorite principal," is sure to catch their attention. Graziano assured that actual principals from East Longmeadow schools have volunteered for this duty.

The East Longmeadow Police Department will be on hand to teach bicycle safety while the Fire Department will bring its Safe House to the site to teach fire safety and prevention.

Musicians include Mentos & The New Horizon Band, the Hartford Steel Symphony and Hot Like Fire.

Featured food will reflect American and Caribbean favorites including burgers, hot dogs and fried dough from Fazio's; a pig roast from Romito's; jerk chicken from B'Shara's; and Jamaican beef patties from Scott's Bakery in Hartford.

In addition to the bounce house, super slide, basketball and soccer shoots, there will be entertainment by Ed Popielarczyk, face painting and fun with the Shriners clowns.

Mascots from local businesses and sports teams will also meet with festival-goers to add to the fun atmosphere. Attending will be the armadillo from Texas Road House, Screech from the Springfield Falcons, Mercury Man from Starbucks and the UMass Amherst Minuteman.

Tickets will be available the day of the event, Sept. 10, from noon to 6 p.m., as well as at Graziano Gardens and Romito's.
