EAST LONGMEADOW October is National Fire Prevention Month, and Papa Gino's, in conjunction with the Home Safety Council, is teaming up with local fire departments to help educate the community on fire prevention. For the past 13 years, New England fire departments and Paper Gino's have helped approximately 1.5 million people by supplying educational materials and free pizza at fire safety open houses. The East Longmeadow Fire Department is holding an Open House at East Longmeadow Fire Station, 150 Somers Road on Oct. 7 from noon-3 p.m. Some of the exciting events include firefighters demonstrating the way to escape a smoke-filled room, cooking safety tips, fire prevention tips and Sparky, the fire safety mascot, interacting with the children. Each year, fires claim hundreds of lives throughout new England. Fire safety open houses are geared towards educating the community and preparing them for potential fires. Each year, these open houses help to better prepare families in the event of a fire and hopefully save lives. |
