EAST LONGMEADOW The late Abraham Cohen was one of the first residents of East Village Place in East Longmeadow, and he was recently remembered by his friends and family.

In addition to planting a young tree on the grounds, friends, family and staff members at East Village Place recalled Cohen's love of sweets, his love for East Village Place, and his perpetually positive attitude.

Abraham Cohen's son, Leonard Cohen and his wife, Carol, planted the tree in Abraham's memory near the memory garden at East Village Place. They also indicated that a plaque or bench will be placed there, so others may enjoy the beauty and shade of the tree, and also remember Abraham Cohen.

"He loved it here so much," Carol reflected. "When there was a holiday or a family dinner, he would say 'I can't go. I gotta stay here.'"

Or, Leonard added, he would attend the family gathering and a short while later was ready to go back to East Village Place.

Cohen lived at the facility for five and a half years and was 96 recently when he passed away.

"He lived a long, healthy life, and he was proud of what he did [in his life] he never complained," Leonard added.
