Friends host coffee house event for Library

EAST LONGMEADOW The Friends of East Longmeadow Public Library announce their third annual East Longmeadow Coffee House, an event for writers, musicians, and other performers to meet and share their work. For one evening in October, the community room at the library will be transformed into a coffee house.

"The East Longmeadow Coffee House received enthusiastic thumbs up from the forty people who attended last year," explained Laura Palmer, President of the library's Friends group. The event drew people from East Longmeadow, Longmeadow, Springfield, Agawam, Ware, Granville, Douglas, Palmer, Enfield (CT), South Hadley, and Monson.

"We urge writers, storytellers, musicians, stand-up comics, and other coffee house-type performers to come," said Carol Munro, chairperson of the event. "It's a great opportunity to share your work and meet others. If you're not one to take the stage, come to sit back and enjoy the amazing talent."

Readers and performers are limited to ten minutes each. Last year, coffee house guests were entertained by a musical duet and a reading duet, three individual musical performers, and 12 individuals reading poetry or prose. One poet also had her original watercolor painting displayed behind the lectern.

Organizing the coffee house for the Friends are local writers Carol Munro and Susan Superson of East Longmeadow and Paula Bernal of Longmeadow. The event, to be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 12, is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and a free drawing for door prizes will be held at the end of the evening. Doors open at 6:45.

To register as a reader/performer or to reserve a seat in the audience, call the library at 525-5400 or sign up at the library's circulation desk by October 10. The library is located off Maple Street at 60 Center Square near the East Longmeadow rotary.
