Fundraising begins for Scholarship Foundation

The East Longmeadow Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce the kick off their spring fundraising campaign beginning March 28. Students will be going door to door throughout the neighborhoods in East Longmeadow from March 28 to April 12 accepting donations to fund scholarships.

The East Longmeadow Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit organization run by volunteers that has provided over $533,000 to more than 1600 college bound students since 1961. In addition, the Foundation has partnered with local businesses to make the campaign more successful than ever. On April 4 and April 5 students will be accepting donations at the following local businesses: Rocky's Ace Hardware, A.W. Brown , Enzo's Brick Oven Pizza and Coughlin's Restaurant.

"We are deeply grateful to our local businesses for their support in this campaign," Foundation President Karla Shea said. "We urge all East Longmeadow citizens to support our high school seniors in our 2009 campaign. These scholarship awards have proven to be invaluable in helping our young adults obtain their college degrees."

Past scholarship recipients have graduated from schools such as Tufts, Boston University, Cornell, Fairfield, UMass, Bucknell and UConn to name a few. With the support of the Scholarship Foundation, East Longmeadow students have gone on to become doctors, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, lawyers, engineers, teachers, health care workers, investment managers and much more.
