EAST LONGMEADOW - The Board of Selectmen met on Feb. 6 to discuss an incident that took place at the Meadows on Jan. 28, Chairman James Driscoll said.

"The alarm systems inside the lounge were tripped at 3 a.m. and the police responded. There were two intoxicated patrons locked in after hours, so we brought the manager before the board," Driscoll said.

The board told Meadows manager Manuel Coelho that he had to secure all alcohol in a banquet facility when not in use, so it will be locked.

"We also want him [Coelho] to make sure that all of his bartenders are certified," Driscoll said.

The Board also conducted interviews and filled vacant positions within the town, including the Public Safety Committee, Conservation Commission, and the Dog Officer position.

"The new Dog Officer is Linda Johnson, who is very gentle with animals and is currently the dog officer in Ludlow," Driscoll said.

Driscoll said that all four applicants for the Public Safety Committee were appointed.

"Richard Brady and John O'Neil were appointed as members, while Michael Sacenti and Craig Tedeschi were appointed as alternates," Driscoll said. "All the candidates were equally qualified and we felt all of them deserved to be on the Committee.

"For the Conservation Commission, we went with the recommendation of the chairman of the commission and hired Colleen Foerster," Driscoll said.

"Again though, the other parties were extremely well- qualified and we want them to stay involved in other committees," he said.

The board also addressed an issue concerning a dumping site on Pleasant Street that was made up of leaf and yard waste near a wetlands area.

"The health inspector went and observed the site and found no health threat of any kind," Driscoll said. "The site has been cleaned up and the problem is solved."

The board also approved moving the cell phone tower from the old water tower to the one currently being built. "The new tower obstructed the service from the cell site, so we agreed to move it to the new water tower," Driscoll said.

The Board of Selectmen also posted an ad for a new information technology director.

The next Board of Selectmen meeting is scheduled for Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Hearing Room.
