EAST LONGMEADOW Gina Rosati is Miss East Longmeadow 2006. She is the 46th person to be crowned.

Reminder Publications caught up with the 2006 title-winner a few days after her crowning.

This was Rosati's second year participating in the pageant. Last year she was first runner-up. Rosati said she decided to enter again because she had "so much fun last year and such a great experience."

The Worcester State College freshman won a $5,000 scholarship and was the recipient of the People's Choice Award and the Robert Scagni Community Service Award.

Rosati said that there were other benefits of participating in the event besides the scholarship money.

"It is such a confidence builder. I'm pretty shy so it took so much for me to get up there," she explained.

She also cited the friendships she made as a plus.

"We've been working together since Christmas," said Rosati. "It's pretty hard not to get close."

Rosati was one out of 10 girls vying for the title. Danielle Portier was first runner-up; Emma Gilbert, was second runner-up; and Casey Claffey was third runner-up and recipient of the Miss Congeniality Award.

Other participants in the pageant included, Tamer Plourd, Apryl MacRae, Tempestt Philip, Laura Henshaw, Aime Bihler and Brittney Devenitch

As the winner, Rosati said she is preparing for the Annual Miss Massachusetts Scholarship Pageant. She will also appear at parades and community events throughout the year, while she pursues a degree in Occupational Therapy.

Rosati also said that she will continue dancing.

"It's my passion and I want to stick with it," she said.

She also said her friends and family are still beaming from her win. The night of the event her close supporters were dressed in pink t-shirts with Rosati's name on the back.

"They were so excited. They still are," she added. "I'm still getting phone calls from them."
