EAST LONGMEADOW – This past May, the Joy Bowl Poke Restaurant opened a new location in East Longmeadow at 47 Maple St. The restaurant already has locations in Hadley, Springfield, West Springfield and Enfield, CT. Nina Chen and her husband ShouQi Liang started the construction of the building last year. They are the owners of the property and East Longmeadow location.
“We chose this location because it’s through the convenience of the customers and giving them more locations to go to,” said Nina Chen.
Server Giovanna Capuano added, “A lot of people think the East Longmeadow location is more convenient for them because they would either go to the Enfield location or the Springfield location. This one is close to where they live, so we have a lot of returning customers as well.”
Poke is diced raw fish served either as an appetizer or a main course and is one of the main dishes of Native Hawaiian cuisine. The poke bowl starts with rice or salad. Then customers can choose different kinds of protein from tuna, salmon, shrimp, crabs and scallops as well as chicken, beef and tofu.
They can get up to 10 mixes, a full variety of cucumbers, edamame, green onion, masago and tobiko. The restaurant also has appetizers of Gyozas and their one bite poke.
They have signature bowls like the Joy Classic which comes with their Ahi tuna, salmon, romaine lettuce, seaweed salad, mango, edamame and sweet corn with their sriracha aioli and teriyaki sauce. The customer gets to pick their base of white rice, brown rice, or salad.
“We hope to keep the customers coming and have a lot of returning faces,” Chen said. “I want to expand peoples’ palates to a new cuisine because there aren’t any other spots like this in East Longmeadow.”
Joy Bowl East Longmeadow is open Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m.- 9 p.m. Visit their website at joybowleastlongmeadow.com. For questions, call 224-1519.
