EAST LONGMEADOW The East Longmeadow Lions Club has announced the guest of honor for their April 26 dinner meeting at Elmcrest Country Club: Holyoke Chief of Police Anthony Scott.

Lions Club member Scott Grabowski explained to The Reminder that Scott appeared before the club in 2003 and received a great response from members.

"He's a very interesting fellow," Grabowski said. "He speaks his mind."

He added, "He gave up his 'Law & Order' episode last time (one of his favorite shows) to attend the dinner."

The Lions Club hosts dinner meetings twice each month on the second and fourth Wednesdays. Grabowski said the public is welcome to attend these meetings, and fellow Lions members are encouraged to bring guests and potential members.

Scott has been chief of police for the city of Holyoke since May 2001 and, among other accomplishments, was voted national vice president of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executive (NOBLE) in 2003, then president in 2004; received the State of Illinois Bar Association "Law Enforcement Professional Award;" received the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Reclamation Award; and the Rotary Club's Paul Harris Fellow Award.

He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, NOBLE, Massachusetts Chiefs of Police, Western Massachusetts Chiefs of Police, Major City Chiefs and the FBI National Academy Associates.

The event on April 26 begins with a social at 6 p.m., followed by chef's choice dinner at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $14 and reservations must be made by April 24 by calling 525-0270. Elmcrest Country Club is located at 105 Somersville Rd., East Longmeadow.
