EAST LONGMEADOW - The East Longmeadow Lions Club has selected Robert "Bob Z" Zumbruski as their 2009 Distinguished Citizen of the Year.

Zumbruski, who passed away this past April, was nominated by Lion Victor Lederer.

Zumbruski had been very active in the community as well as the Lions Club. He served as president of local sports associations, as well as being a past president of the East Longmeadow Lions Club. He also served on the East Longmeadow Senior Center Study Committee.

Zumbruski was a Lions Club International Melvin Jones Fellow. The Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund Inc. also named him as a Sight Award and Sponsor Award recipient.

He was chosen as East Longmeadow Lion of the Year in 1995-96, and was instrumental in starting the East Longmeadow Lions Club Moe Moriarty Memorial Golf Tournament. The Lions Club's board of directors has voted to add Bob Z's name to the title of the tournament in recognition of his devoted service and leadership to the tourney.

Zumbruski received his bachelor's degree from Western New England College in engineering. He and his wife, Pat, moved to East Longmeadow in 1967 where Bob was employed by Milton Bradley for 32 years. They enjoyed their retirement by taking cruises, visiting polka festivals, and backyard gardening and bird watching. Zumbruski enjoyed golfing, and for several years routinely bowled in leagues.

The Zumbruskis have three children and two grandchildren. He is truly missed by family and friends, and is very deserving to have been named the East Longmeadow Lions Club's Distinguished Citizen of 2009.
