EAST LONGMEADOW/LONGMEADOW – On Feb. 4, a new organization named More Than Mom (MTM) officially launched. With 27 members so far, Founder/President Janine Rosenholm is looking to grow that number to provide a diverse number of offerings to their membership. “I want moms to know that we have your back if you’re going through a tough time,” she said. “We’re here to support each other and enjoy ourselves.”
More Than Mom is an all-volunteer club providing social events, resources and education to members, their families and the general community. MTM members include stay-at-home moms, working moms, expectant mothers and experienced moms of school-aged children. While MTM is founded on a recognized need to support the unique role of motherhood, Rosenholm stated, “we know that parenthood takes many forms and that our children and families face varying circumstances and needs. We welcome and celebrate families of every shape, size and makeup.”
Rosenholm explained to Reminder Publishing that she wanted to start a club which serves all types of local moms, that would have an active membership, be self-sustaining and become an asset to East Longmeadow, Longmeadow and other surrounding communities.
“I had this idea of forming a social and charitable club for moms that would be inclusive, family-oriented and community-focused,” she said. “I wanted to enrich the lives of our members by cultivating connections and friendship between local mothers, breaking down barriers and ultimately creating a more connected feeling for members, their families and our larger communities.”
Service is an important foundation of MTM, and members can expect to be provided service in their time of need and offer service to others. Recently, the group volunteered at the Greater Springfield’s Habitat for Humanity build site in Holyoke at Jackson and Chestnut Street where they worked on a three-bedroom home for a family with a 5-year-old and 10-year-old.
On April 23, MTM will have an Earth Day Clean Up from 8:30 a.m.- 11 a.m. in East Longmeadow at 180 Maple St. On June 11, they will be volunteering at the Baystate NICU Family and Friends 5k/10k Walk in Wilbraham, and June 4, will host their launch party from 3- 5 p.m. at the Little Red School House in Wilbraham for those who wish to learn more about what the club has to offer the community.
Rosenholm has been working on MTM becoming a non-profit with a deeper purpose and having a sustaining position in their communities that is respected and desired. After awaiting news of their status, she received a letter from the IRS stating More Than Mom is now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. “It feels great,” Rosenholm said. “It has been six months of work to get to this point. The next step is building membership while enjoying ourselves and remembering what motivated me and our other founders to create this group.”
