By Natasha Clark Reminder Assistant Editor EAST LONGMEADOW Reminder Publications' own Elizabeth Koelle was presented with a warrant and carried away to Bertucci's restaurant in Longmeadow in the name of charity. Last Wednesday, volunteer Rick Albertowicz of Springfield Limousine and Airport Car Service came into Reminder Publications' East Longmeadow location, complete with a mock badge, and served Koelle with a Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) warrant for her arrest. She was then carried off in a white limousine to enjoy a lunch at Bertucci's with fellow charity inmates. "They 'arrested' me [for MDA's Lock-up] and asked me to raise 'bail' to benefit kids & families with neuromuscular diseases," Koelle shared. "The lockup was at Bertucci's. I pre-raised my bail money, but they had phones available at the event so people could make calls. They fed us pizza and took our mug shots." Koelle managed to raise $500 in contributions. According to www.mdusa.org, "volunteers are the driving force that enables MDA to accelerate its worldwide research program and provide diagnostic and follow-up care through some 230 clinics nationwide." Anyone interested in participating in MDA events are encouraged to call the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Western Mass Chapter at 413-567-5500. |
