May 13 barn sale to benefit the Norcross House

Date: 5/11/2017

EAST LONGMEADOW – You don’t have to brave the crowds in Brimfield this month to get your antique-hunting fix. On May 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Norcross House, located at 89 Maple St., is hosting its own local barn sale and flea market.

The event, which is a fundraiser for the non-profit historic house, will include an eclectic mix of donated items and vendors. Joan Noonan, president of the board of Directors of the Norcross House said the sale will take place “mostly in the barn, and we do have some vendors that are going to be joining us in outdoor spaces and on the porch.”

She said items for sale would run the gamut from collection-worthy pieces to traditional tag sale type goods, with several things that would be of interest to serious antiquers.

“We have had a lot of board members and friends that have contributed some very nice items, many antiques and collectibles” for the barn sale, she added.  The sale will take place rain or shine.

Noonan said proceeds from the barn sale and flea market would be put in a fund to replace the driveway at the historic house. Put down sometime between 60 and 80 years ago, the concrete surface is in dire need or repair, and Noonan said the board has been “getting estimates on costs and products, on what we can replace it with that will keep [the driveway] in the period of the house, which was built in 1880.”

The current estimate is that a driveway replacement will cost a minimum of $10,000. Noonan said the board is hoping to raise at least $1,000 toward this repair with the May 13 event.

“It’s important that we get this driveway taken care of, not only aesthetically, but from a safety standpoint, Noonan said.

She added there are no other fundraisers planned for the driveway project at this time, but the board is hoping to obtain additional funding from the ongoing rental of the house for private events.  Noonan said interested parties should call 525-1122 and leave a message to obtain further information.
