Bluebird Estates donates $650 in school supplies to Meadow Brook teachers

Date: 9/3/2015

EAST LONGMEADOW – Meadow Brook Elementary School recently received at least $650 worth of school supplies for its teachers from “Stuff the Bus” fundraising efforts by residents, supporters, and vendors of Bluebird Estates.

Meadow Brook School Principal Lisa Dakin told Reminder Publications she believes the fundraiser is an incredible example of the East Longmeadow community supporting its public schools.

“Our teachers come into the building throughout the summer working on their classrooms – trying to make the classrooms warm and inviting and they spend a lot of their own money buying supplies,” she said.

“I think this is just a great way to thank all the teachers,” she added.

Steve Headley, a member of Bluebird Estates’ community management team, said retirement communities across the country have completed similar campaigns to raise money for teachers.

Meadow Brook teachers requested items such as hand sanitizer, tissues, glue sticks, Post-it notes, dry erase markers, baby wipes, paper towels, Crayola markers, and Velcro dots, he noted.

“We wanted to make an impact for them,” Headley said. “The students probably don’t need as much support, but over the long haul of the year the teachers pay a lot of out-of-pocket expenses of their own money for these supplies.”

A barbeque fundraiser event took place on Aug. 22, he noted.

The admission price was a bag of school supplies.
