EAST LONGMEADOW - In April, East Longmeadow resident Kate Bolduc was crowned Miss Commonwealth, and even though she didn't win the title of Miss Massachusetts, her work as a representative of the Miss Massachusetts Scholarship Foundation Inc. and the Miss America organization continues.

The foundation supports the Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals. To support this cause, Bolduc will be hosting a cookie decorating fundraiser on Dec. 20.

"The Miss America organization works as a yearlong fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network. I wanted to raise money again by hosting a large event," Bolduc explained.

She said she decided to host this particular event because she's always been a fan of decorating cookies around the holidays. "I think it'll really appeal to families. They can decorate cookies and then give them as gifts, and they'll be delicious."

Ceric Racing Series, which races at Stafford Motor Speedway, is serving as the sponsor of the event, donating the cookies and the edible decorations.

"It was kind of a no-brainer for us to sponsor," Wade Gagner, series promoter for Ceric, said. "Anything to do to help kids, we'll do. I know it's tough to find sponsors in this time, but we're still going strong, still moving forward. It's a pleasure to sponsor this."

Gagner said he's looking forward to attending the fundraiser and that he hopes it is successful enough for it to become a yearly occurrence.

Bolduc explained that cookies and decorations will be provided, and that funds will be raised by charging a very nominal fee per cookie. Holiday-themed entertainment will also be provided during the event.

In addition, Pete's Sweets, a baking business run by Peter Gray, a senior at East Longmeadow High School, will be selling baked goods.

The cookie decorating fundraiser will be taking place from 2 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 20 in the United Methodist Church's Fellowship Hall, located at 215 Somers Rd.
