New director plans ELCAT revamp

EAST LONGMEADOW Filmmaker David Horgan would like to bring a "little Hollywood to East Longmeadow" through his role as the new director of ELCAT, the town's cable access channel.

Horgan has worked on the production of television commercials as well as producing two movies he directed "Collinsville" and "Cathedral Pines." He was the executive producer of Springfield's video entry in the contest to name the City of Homes as the home of the Simpsons earlier this year.

East Longmeadow Selectman James Driscoll is no stranger to Horgan's expertise as he had a cameo appearance in "Cathedral Pines."

Horgan's plans include revamping the space currently allocated to ELCAT at the high school, bringing in state of the art equipment and recruiting a new group of volunteers. He will be teaching classes in television production that will give students "real world skills," he said.

He will also change the town's video community calendar so it will be easier to read.

He said that Driscoll and fellow Selectman Jack Villamaino are in full support to turn the ELCAT into " a real studio," he said. Horgan added that Ed Brown, the owner of New York Sound and Motion, a Springfield-based video production facility with national clients, has agreed to help the effort.

"I can promise it's going to be an exciting venture," he added.

He estimated that three to six months will be needed to make many of the changes and that he needs assistance to make those improvements happen.

"I can't do it as a one-man show," he said. "It takes a community to do it."

Interested people in signing up for training should contact Horgan at 547-8799 or by e-mail at DHorgan100@aol.com.

"Everyone wants to see this happen," he said.
