EAST LONGMEADOW The Board of Selectmen met March 27 and hired a new executive director for the Council on Aging to replace the late Rosalind Clark.

"It was with the consensus of two members from the Council on Aging, and Selectman Villamaino and myself, that we hired Carolyn Brennan as the new executive director," chairman James Driscoll told Reminder Publications. "She was a level above the other three candidates."

Driscoll said Brennan had 12 years experience as the executive director of the Hampden Council on Aging. "It was perfect timing for someone with her experience for the current renovation project," Driscoll said. "Brennan is currently living in the private sector. She has experience with grant money writing."

Brennan takes over the Council during their current renovation project.

"We had been trying for years to figure out what to do with the building," Driscoll said. "Former Senator Brian Lees gave us a grant of $440,000 for the building before he left office and his replacement, Senator [Gale] Candaras, kept the money for us."

The board also received an update on Club Meadows, where two intoxicated patrons were found locked in after hours.

"The Meadows informed us that all of their bartenders are certified and they complied with our wishes," Driscoll said. "We wish them luck in the future."

The board held their monthly meeting with Police Chief Douglas Mellis, where the "Goods for Guns" program was discussed. The program is a coordinated effort between local police departments, the district attorney's office, and area Wal-Mart stores to remove guns from households that could harm children.

The Selectmen approved site plan reviews for Inglewood Realty Trust and Ramona Circle and the Rotary Club Shrub and Tree Sale on April 28.

The next Board of Selectmen meeting will be a re-organization meeting on April 11 following the town elections on April 10. The next full meeting is scheduled for April 24 in the Town Hall Hearing Room.
