| The East Longmeadow Fire Explorer Post 525 just received three new fire helmets. In top photo, Post members Matt Sterling and Andrew Wright compare a new fire helmet with an original model. The original fire helmets were passed down from the fire department and date back to the early 1980s. Now in poor condition, the Post hopes to replace the remaining 11 helmets before the end of the year. In the past two years the Post has obtained newer used fire coats, pants, and boots from another fire department. The Post has also been able to purchase new nomex hoods and gloves. Their goal is to make it possible in the future for Post members to assist the fire department at fire calls. In order to obtain the final 11 helmets, at a cost of $145 per helmet, the Post needs to raise $1,595.
